Bushido – The spirit of Martial Arts
An old proverb says: “By beholding we are changed into the same image . . . !” How true this is. Even in our modern world today this principle is played out in every one of our lives. What we look at, what we listen to, what we read, and that which we take in through our senses, is what we become. Vito Rallo
A good friend of mine, a strong man of God, and former 5 time national
champion in Okinawan and Japanese karate, Dr. Vito Rallo shared his testimony with me of this experience in his own life: Vito trained under some of the most renowned Japanese masters of the last century. He was highly respected among his peers until one day
when he had a true born again experience.
In 1971, some college students he was training, were excitedly talking about a book that revealed the prophesies of the times in which we are living and the soon return of Jesus Christ! Out of curiosity, Vito pur-chased a copy of his own and read it for himself. It was during the reading of this book that he came to a turning point in his life and decided it was better for him to serve the LORD than to serve the martial Free Indeed
arts as his master. From that day forward Vito Rallo’s life would never be Ministries
Up until this point, his life was solely based on his identity in karate. But after his born again experience, he began to realize the pride, violence, idolatry, and deception that had become such a huge part of what he had allowed into his life. And he clearly saw the same traits of character in fellow instructors and students, some of whom called themselves Christians.
The more he learned about the life of Jesus Christ while here upon the earth, the more he saw the contradiction between what was in his own life and that which Jesus modeled for His followers. He realized when he was in competition, that he did not have mercy or com-passion, nor the kindness which was exemplified in the Life of Jesus. He found that the violence and determination to win at all costs, even to hurt the other person, overruled all that Jesus stood for. He realized that he could not represent God’s grace and mercy, and at the same time attack his opponent
in the ring with a vengeance.
The martial arts said “peace,” yet taught destruction; they said “mercy,” yet showed little or none. The Japanese masters which groomed Vito emanated a spirit of supernatural power and intimidation, which struck awe and fear into the hearts of all
those around them. It was this spirit of Bushido; of pride, violence Samurai
and self-exaltation which had gained such a strong influence
over his life.
A few months after being born again, Vito clearly heard one day, the Lord tell him to remove himself from any connection to the martial arts, and to those things which had dominated his life for so many years? He quickly obeyed. Even though he was a well known, high-ranking black belt instructor by this time, with many connections made over the years, Vito still made the decision to sever all ties. And that decision would prove very costly.
His superiors immediately removed all accolades (awards and recognitions), titles, and accomplishments from his record! Those who had once taught him, were now very angry at the him for the time they had invested in their protégé. As Vito details in his book, it wasn’t until years later that he began to realize the extent of the unseen, powerful nfluences and forces of darkness that are behind both martial arts and yoga; and how they simply cannot be Christianized. It was then that he was led by the Lord to write this book exposing the dangers in
order to warn others.
Martial art = the art of war
Bushido = the warrior spirit -conquer, survival of the fittest, to win at all costs.
In martial arts, this is “the Way” of life, and the way of living. This is the bushido spirit !
In early Japanese martial history, all of the varying styles were
referred to as “justsu”; or the techniques of warfare. During this feudal period, when warring clans fought for greater dominion and lands, the training of special combat techniques and skill was reserved for the military personnel, the Samurai and Shogun alone. As the Japanese began working to compete in the world markets economically, the country was brought under a more unified
structure, and government. Many of the Samurai warlords, Jigoro Kano
were released from their active duty, and retired to homes in the
mountains. These men, who had spent their lives training to kill,
with legions of warriors at their command; now struggled to find
their purpose and identity in a world under rapid change.
They had one skill; one purpose; and one reason to be alive, that was the art of war. Many of these infamous warlords began training young men at their homes in the secret arts once so revered by the common people.
With a new found following of young disciples, the art of war was
kept alive, and passed down from generation to generation. Then, in the late 1800’s a movement began to swell which would forever change the Japanese martial landscape. A few of these warriors, men like Morihei Ueshiba, Jigoro Kano, and Gichin Funa-koshi; men who were educated, men who were respected within the Japanese legislative halls, and men who saw in the arts something deeper than just mortal combat; began transforming their arts into a more ‘philosophical’ study of the way of life, rather than an art of death.
These men, and others like them traveled back to the Chinese roots of their Chuan-fa (China hand – known today as Kenpo) styles. As they trained with and witnessed the almost supra-natural abilities of the Chinese masters, they realized that it was not by physical training alone, that these men were able to perform the feats which they saw. For it was the spiritual powers behind the masters which gave them the abilities and skills of more than mere mortal men.
Thus the Japanese Sensei made the final step of their arts into “the way” (tao) of life, which is now taught in every dojo around the world. As these men began adopt to the Buddhist, Taoist, and Hindu philosophy and religions into their martial teachings; they saw a striking resemblance to the unique ‘spiritual abilities’ demonstrated by the Chinese. Although the names of these styles have changed; (Chuan-fa, China-hand became Karate, empty-hand); the root principles and methods of practice did not.
These men and their disciples began incorporating Zen Buddhist teachings into the daily practice of both un-armed, and weapons combat. Karate-jutsu became Karate-do; Ju-jutsu became Judo, and Aiki-jutsu became Aikido. The emphasis on the martial spirit remains paramount !
But what saith the Word of Almighty GOD ?
“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways (paths) of (to) death.” Proverbs 14:12 ref: Romans 6:21-23
“And Jesus (Yehushua) saith unto him, I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me !” John 14:6
“Thy Word is a Lamp unto my feet, and a Light unto my path . . . For the entrance of Thy Words giveth Light; It giveth understanding unto the simple . . . Order my steps in Thy Word: and let not iniquity have dominion over me . . . Plead my cause, and deliver me; Quicken (renew Life within) me according to Thy Word . . .”
Psalm 119:105, 130, 133, 154
“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us . . . In Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men . . . And the Light shineth in darkness; but the darkness comprehen-ded It not . . . But as many as received Him (The Word), to them gave He power to become the sons and daughters of God (Jehovah, Yehuwah), even to them that believe on His name !” John 1:14,4-5,12
The founder and modern day “father” of karate explains his art in this way: “The purpose of martial arts competition is not in winning or losing, but in the perfection of the character of it’s participants.” That sounds very honorable; But . . .
Few are told or realize until too late, what is actually introduced in every karate class across the globe; Especially here in the United States and Europe, where “children’s karate” has grown so rapidly. Every parent is assured that their child will be learning such “character building” principles as: “self-disciple,” “self-esteem,” “self-confidence;” but in reality they are learning traits far harder to erase, such as; self-centeredness, self-exaltation, self-sufficiency, selfishness and Pride !
And what is the fruit after long hours of training under these masters,
and many years in the dojo ?
Many students and practitioners of the martial arts, hold their
instructors in the highest esteem. They watch their every movement. How they dress, how they talk, what they eat, what they enjoy watching and listening to as entertainment. Students will often mold their lives
after the men whom they look to as powerful and successful. And by beholding they are changed into the same image. Funakoshis’s
And to whom or what do these men of war look for their “inspiration“ ?
When we take a closer look at the image emblazon upon the cover of his “Master’s Text,” we see that the ideal of Funako-shi’s art is everything but Christian. The distorted figure is one expressive of rage, violence, brutality, pride, and demonic power ! Fudo-myoo – one of

In the 1980’s, American theaters were flooded with movies idolizing the martial arts. Movies such as: The Karate Kid, The Last Dragon, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the character of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars; were marketed to appeal to the younger generation. The storyline of each of these box office hits, centered around an “underdog” striving for acceptance by his or her peers, struggling to overcome family, financial, or internal obstacles, and seeking to understand the purpose of life.
The story’s focus follows the path from an apparent hopeless situation to
the young person unexpectedly finding an instructor; and a “father figure” in the martial arts.
Through rigorous physical and mental training; the student learns to seek within themselves for power to conquer their enemies, to save the universe, and find the answers to life’s questions. Throughout these films, the teachers of each martial art, subtly blend eastern philosophy and mysticism into the hearts of the young pupils. At the end of each story, the student becomes the hero, and is able through their new found powers to save and rescue their families, their world and change the destiny of their own lives.
They are made to appear as shining examples of what humanity could become, once the practices of the far east are incorporated into their daily lives. But in every case, without fail; that which the young students really acquire, is familiarity with occult powers. Each of the abilities which they now posses, is in reality a forbidden gift granted them by the spirit world, in exchange for obedience and servitude to the art, it’s practices and it’s masters.
However, unknown to most students in the martial arts; these powers and abilities are condemned by the Word of God as dangerous, and even fatal to our Eternal Life. The practice of these occult powers and abilities, is in almost every respect like a drug; they offer a “quick high,” and then there is the price to be paid.
“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul ? . . . Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul ?” Matthew 16:26 & Mark 9:37
Character is that which actuates a person in all areas of his life. It is a person’s character that determines the choices they will make in any given situation. On a physical level, actions oft repeated form habits, and habits over time form character. On the emotional and mental level, it is spiritual influences which are the greatest contributor to a person’s character.
Webster’s dictionary defines spirit as this: Spirit = the breath or life principle; the individual, with reference to the character–istics of mind, temper and disposition; a specter, a spirit, a supernatural being; one able to manifest, or possess an individual.
“Hereby know we that we dwell in Him, and He (Jehovah, Yehuwah) in us, because He hath given us of His Spirit . . . And he that keepeth His Commandments (teachings, instructions in righteousness) dwelleth in Him, and He in him. And hereby we know that He (Jesus, Yehushua) abideth in us, by the Spirit which He hath given us !” I John 4:13 & 3:24
“If ye abide in Me (The Word), and My Words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you . . . For the Words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit and they are Life !” John 15:7 & 6:63
“And you hath He quickened (raised to new Life), who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked (lived) according to the course (path, way) of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience !” Ephesians 2:1-2
There are and always have been only two choices: Light or darkness, Good or evil, Righteousness or wickedness, Obedience or rebellion. Every man is given free will to choose.
Now there . . . “Choose ye this day, whom ye will serve; but as for me and my house we will serve the LORD !” Joshua 24:14-15.

so I Am . . . But why call ye Me, Lord, Lord, and yet do not those things which I say ?”
John 13:13 & Luke 6:46
“For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. Verily it is written, As I live, saith the LORD (Jehovah, Yehuwah), Every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to GOD (The Almighty) . . . Wherefore (and for this reason) GOD also hath highly exalted Him, and hath given Him a name which is above every name !
That at the name of Jesus (Yehushua) every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Yehushua is Anointed Sovereign King), to the glory of GOD The Father !” Romans 14:10-12, Philippians 2:9-11
In the ancient tribes and war clans of the far east, men worshiped the elements and forces of nature.
Of these powers, the animal kingdom proved the most relevant and the most easily observed in combat. Men watched as predator and prey would contend
for survival. Often when two clans would go to war; the warriors would gather together around a great fire at night to invoke their deities, and summon the spirits of beasts and dead ancestors to aid them in battle. These gatherings would be accompanied by ritual sacrifices, displays of self mutilation and branding, and tribal drums to summons the “gods of war.” This fight for supremacy of one clan over another, became a challenge between not only mere men, but the powers of pagan gods.
To the heathen mind of these primitive tribes, the animals were a physical representation of the spirit world. And the gifts and abilities which each animal possessed, were said to have been given by the spirits. Each man would offer himself as a living sacrifice for an host to the spirits. Their bodies became the vehicle through which the spirits could exercise their power. Through ritual dances and magic, these evil spirits were channeled into the warriors hearts, minds and bodies. The blood lust and violence which followed these worship ceremonies, was horrific and unequaled.
Yet we see these same rituals and results occurring ever more frequently in our modern world today ! Men, women and little children sit for hours watching Hollywood’s portrayals of the most viscous and heartless acts of violence, mayhem, and brutality and yet we call it “entertainment.” Music which sounds in ever increasing volume in our shop-ping malls, restaurants, and automobiles, is teaching doctrines and principles which are blatantly opposed to the Word and Will of Almighty God. New horror and fantasy novels are indoctrinating our youth into a culture and philosophy which loves death, violence and ungodliness.
Through the medium of cable tv, dvds and pay preview; entire families are finding seats right beside those ancient Romans in the Colosseum. Americans are paying big money to watch the gladiatorial pride, brutality and rage, which was unthinkable in this country until only recent times. Are we unwittingly returning to the pagan practices of the heathen nations of old . . . Are there entities unseen, stealthily working to prepare mankind for the last great battle of earth’s history and the final day
of judgment ?
“In the beginning God (Elohim) created the heaven and the earth . . . And God said, Let Us (The Eternal Father and His Son – ref: Proverbs 30:4) make man in Our image, after Our likeness: and let him have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle (four legged beast), and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the ground !” Genesis 1:1,26
“. . . But man became vain in their imaginations , and their foolish heart was darkened. And professing themselves wise, they became fools, and changed the glory (the crowning act of His creation) of the uncorruptible (immortal, unchange-able in moral righteousness) God into an image (form) made like to corruptible man, and birds, and four footed beasts, and creeping things !” Romans 1:21-23
Note: Within this page we will show examples of the 5 energies and their symbols; both upright, and inverted. With the single point upright, the symbol is said by occultists to represent white magic; and with the single point downward, it is the symbol for black magic . . . as though there were a difference. This very concept of dualism (that Light and darkness can dwell together) is rooted in the pagan philosophies of the Taoist, Buddhist, and
The Star Wars films by George Lucas have been the greatest influence in teaching this pagan idea to an entire generation of our youth. The effect of those films is seen through-out the western world today. Through the Asian concept of “the Force,” Lucas ‘the light side’ ?

“Chi,” and made it palatable to the western Christian culture. There is an ever increasing desire to seek for occult knowledge, for hidden wisdom from new age gurus, wicca and black magic; for abilities and power gained through the once secret arts. Man is seeking knowledge at the Forbidden Tree, rather than seeking that Wisdom alone which comes from above, from the LORD ‘the dark side’ ?

Forty years ago, no Christian home would have allowed Buddhist, Taoist, or Hindu books on their children’s book shelves; but now many homes of professed followers of Jesus Christ, across this country welcome these new age/occult teachings into their children’s lives, as a form of “entertainment.” The devil has come in like a flood, and the church is rapidly being swept away !
“. . . Having a form of godliness, but denying the Power thereof . . . Well hath Isaiah prophesied of you, hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me! . . . The Hidden thread woven within ?
There are many legends of where the Chinese 5 Animals system came from; and it
is not the purpose of our study to recount each of the fables. In almost all occult societies, and mystery religions; that which is fact is always hidden beneath so many layers of fictious tales, that the undiscerning minds of most people are at the first intrigued, and then grow to accept the principles, without ever really understanding where the origin of the teaching originated.
What we want to reveal is the thread, woven throughout all secret societies, martial arts, occultism, and new age teachings; which cause these stories, symbols, and teachings unfold the secrets which they have desperately attempted to hide from the “common people.” For the Word of Almighty God says:
“Fear them not (be not in awe) therefore: for there is nothing covered (concealed), that shall not be revealed; and nothing hidden, that shall not be known! What I (Jesus, Yehushua) tell you in darkness, that speak ye in Light; and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul (breath and spirit): but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul (breath, spirit) and body in hell (ghehennah – fires of the Final judgment) !”
Matthew 10:26-28, Revelation 20:9 & 21:8
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the dark-ness of this world, and against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God (Yehuwah Elohim), that ye may be able to withstand in the

The 5 Energies and 5 Elders
of Kung fu –
To see and understand this secret thread woven throughout the pagan
religions of the far east, and the occult societies of the west; we need look no further than the emblems and methods (ritual practices) of attaining power.
Everything in the Chinese cosmology is based on what they call “The 5 Elemental Energies,” and their interaction with one another. What they don’t tell the beginning level students, is that these so-called “energies” are actually spirits. The word “energy” is being adopted into the martial arts, new age practices, and alternative medicine because of it’s common use in the scientific community of the western culture. Therefore it is more readily accepted by those who have no professed intention of becoming involved in a religion or “spiritual” exercises.
These 5 “energies” are integrated into Traditional Chinese Medicine, Feng-shui, Shaolin kung-fu, Taoist Tai-chi, Bagua, Hsing-yi, Yoga and even the traditional Five Ancestor Family Clan Boxing. But the root of all these various methods is found in Chinese and Hindu astrology . For it is here that all pagan religions find their common source. In the far east there are exactly five Asian countries and cultures which promote martial arts
around the world. In each of these cultures, their worship is based in the ancient pagan practice of astrology. These five Asian cultures are: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Okinawan, and Indian/Tibet.
In China, there is what is known as 5 Ancestor or 5 Elders kung-fu. This style is based on the teachings of the five masters who are said to have escaped the destruction of the Shaolin temple, in the Qing dynasty. Acc-ording to kung fu tradition, each of these elders brought with them from the Buddhist monastery skills which were given them through the worship of the Buddhist gods. These 5 Elders are also closely related to the Five Ancestor Family’s Clan Boxing the 18 buddhist
schools of China . . . ‘louhan’ – Japan
1st) elder taught the breathing methods and iron body of Da mo (Bodhidharma) – the meditation and Hindu breathing techniques use to enter altered states of conscience, and channel the spirits.
2nd) elder taught the postures and dynamic power of the Shaolin 18 Luohan (Arhats) – the 18 Luohan (Arhats) were the “enlightened ones who were said to have reached “nirvana”. Therefore being said to “know, without knowing how.” In these states of mediation, the masters opened themselves to demonic spirits in exchange for abilities and gifts of power. Arhat boxing today, is taught by imitating the expressions and pos-tures of each of the 18 idol statues in the Shaolin. The total postures in the long Luohan form is exactly 108 (72 earthly, and 36 heavenly).
3rd) elder taught precision, speed and efficiency of motion.
this art was later called Bak mei, or the white eyebrow style. the founder was a Buddhist as well as Taoist priest, and blended the two religion’s physical and meditative practices into one. heavy emphasis on chi-kung and deception. Chinese legend says it was he who betrayed the Shaolin temple’s monks into the hands of the Emperor.
4th) elder taught blocking, hand trapping and chin-na techniques of Fujian White Crane –
this Chinese style was responsible for the greatest influence into the Okinawan and Japanese martial arts. Specifically seen in the Sanchin (breath) kata of Goju-ryu karate.
5th) elder taught the agility and footwork learned supposedly from the legendary Monkey King –
the Monkey king or Sun Wukong, was said to have been a monkey born from a stone (very similar to evolutionary thought ?). Through much practice of the Taoist arts of meditation, qigong, and internal alchemy, he was supposed to have acquired great magical skills. He became proud of his own ability, and rebelled against “heaven” (pagan deities of the sky). He is said to have been a shape shifter and was able to cast spells upon both gods and mortals.
So far each and every one of these “5 Elders” have demonstrated by their lives and teachings, that which directly contradicts the Word of Almighty God. How can a person say they will practice an art, and yet isolate and discard the fundamental principles and teachings of it’s founders? As the Bibles says, we are either living actively for Jesus Christ (Yehushua ha Moshiac) or against Him. There is no middle ground !
The 5 Elements –
These are called Wu Xing in Chinese; the five movements, five phases, or five stages in life. The pagan Buddhist, Taoist, and Hindu practitioner believes that life here on earth is influence by the five cycles of “energy” in the heavens (solar system). They look to the stars rather than to the Creator of the heavens and earth and sea (Jehovah God – Yehuwah Elohim) for wisdom, guidance, strength and healing.
And these 5 elemental forces are not limited alone to the eastern mystical arts. For they and their symbols are found throughout all of the occult religions, secret societies, and new age practices of the world. This alone reveals that these movements and plans which have been set in motion, are more than just coincidence; and these stones of pagan design have been laid by more than merely human invention and imagination . . . !

“Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel . . . Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit. For will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery (ref: Matthew 5:17-37), and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after (follow) other gods whom ye know not . . .
And then come and stand before Me in this house, which is called by My name, and say, We are delivered (saved) ! . . . to do all these abominations?
Seest thou not what they do . . . The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke Me to anger ?

And they also burned that burned incense unto Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven . . . !” II Kings 22:16-17 & 23:1-7
Below we have listed these ‘elements‘ and their related influence in eastern thought and philosophy; with the Greek and Roman names of the gods to whom these powers are classically attributed.
“Hear ye the Word of the LORD (Jehovah, Yehuwah),Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dis-mayed at them . . . Isaiah 51:12-13, Psalm 96:4-5, Nehemiah 9:6
An ancient series of ‘spiritual exercises’, also known as Spontaneous qigong, developed by a Chinese physician named Hua Tuo (110-207 AD), during the Han dynasty. Hua Tuo was known as the ‘magical doctor’ or ‘divine physician’, due to the fact that although he was nearly 100 years old when he introduced the 5 animal frolics, he maintained his youthful appearance and robust vigor. He was renown for his use of acupuncture, moxibustion, and Chinese herbal alchemy, to ‘heal’ his patients.
According to many high level masters and qigong instructors; Hua Tuo’s success was based upon the spiritual practices which he hid within the arts he practiced. As with any witchdoctor, his power remains, only so long as the roots of his techniques remain secret. In this way, the common people sought his skill and reverenced his abilities.
On a basic level, Hua Tuo used a very ancient and powerful form of hypnotism to aid in his treatments. In fact, this is a common practice with many, if not all ‘energy healers,’ qigong, yoga, and reiki practitioners. The physician shows diagrams, books, and other ‘authori-tative sources’ to lend credibility to his diagnosis; and to lead the patient into greater trust of his healing power. The healer then tells the patient the method of treatment, and how the patient will feel in response to the experience. The power of suggestion on the undiscerning mind is dangerous indeed !
The spiritual healer is a strong authority figure; and in today’s world, there are often many certificates and documents adorning the walls, which reinforce the patients ‘faith’ in the doctor’s ability and power. The patient is often in a position of mental and physical weakness; therefore they willingly yield themselves body, soul and spirit to the physician’s commands and instruction. In this state of mind, the spiritual powers behind the TCM physician find ready access into the patient’s life.
At a deeper level, Hua Tuo found his greatest abilities and ‘inspiration’ in blending the practice of shamanic dance with the dao-yin (the precursor to qigong) exercises of Traditional Chinese Medicine. These ritual movements, or ‘dances’ were the means of channeling the spirits of the 5 Elemental Powers and opening the heart and mind to possession.
